Idents are the roughly 20second videos shown before any film, they are to tell the audience which company has produced the film. Each company has their own idents, and you can usually tell what style of film is about to be shown in comparison to the ident, for example you'd expect a childs film when viewing the Disney ident or my trailer we will be using the Warner Brothers ident, as this company are renouned for creating action packed films which goes hand in hand with our film. To download the ident we used http://www.ixconverter.net/ where we found the ident on youtube and downloaded them to a mp4 file. We will be using this ident http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBeYt3LifAQ&NR=1 but cut out everything after 12 seconds in. We feel this will be suitable due to its dark and powerful nature.

This next video shows the transformation that Universal Pictures has inspired through the 75 years of their existence You can see how dramatically effects and editing has had a massive impact on idents over the years and how they have merely advanced on their orignal ideas of a rotating globe. Back when the company first formed, Universal needed a way to distinguish their products from the few other film companies, and so they used and Ident as a somewhat signature, and this tradition has been featured in pretty much every film since.
